A fine French industrial mantel clock, boiler by Guilmet, circa 1880.
This interesting and amusing industrial clock can be attributed to Guilmet who specialised in this type of animated clocks.
The nickel plate boiler is raised on silvered feet and has copper tubes and gilt parts and top. On it a large wheel and regulator are mounted separately driven by a mechanism running several hours after winding. Besides the silvered dial, a thermometer and barometer are mounted on the boiler. The whole is placed on a silvered floor with an engraved tile pattern on a marble plinth on flat feet.
The movement is spring driven and has a duration of eight days which menas one needs to wind it once a week. It is regulated by a lever escapement in combination with a balance wheel.
