An English gilt brass table clock in the manner of Thomas Cole, circa 1860
Description
silvered foliate engraved dial with Roman numerals signed Manoah Rhodes & Co Bradford, fine blued steel hands, 8-day spring driven movement with compensated balance and lever escapement, hour striking on a gong, shaped gilt brass case with similar foliate engraving throughout, dome top with arched pediment, shaped sides, break front base with canted sides raised on a flat plinth.
Manoah Rhodes (& Sons) was registered as clockmaker working at Westgate Bradford from 1837 until 1866. From about 1880 the firm is registered at Kirkgate Bradford until about 1925. Brian Loomes, Watchmakers and clockmakers of the World, 21st Century edition pp. 650.
