A Dutch burr walnut longcase clock by L. du Chesne, circa 1740
Description
8-day movement with half hour Dutch striking and alarm, fine burr walnut veneered case.
33-cm arched brass dial, applied engraved silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals signed Laurens du Chesne Amsterdam, foliate pierced blued steel hands and silvered alarm disc, matted and foliate engraved centre with date aperture and subsidiary seconds, silvered season spandrels, moonphase in the arch with tide and finely engraved surround, ‘bell top’ case veneered with well coloured burr walnut sumounted by a gilt wood atlas and two trumpeting angels, shaped corniche over finely foliate pierced frets, trunk with canted corners and long door with Europe leticle, canted base on pear shaped feet.
