A fine Louis XVI ormolu cartel d’alcove, Martinet London 1776
Description
8-day movement with pull quarter repeating on a bell, fine case with original fire-gilding.
11-cm enamel dial with Roman numerals and outer five minute marking signed Martinet London, the reverse signed for the enameler Barbezat, foliate pierced and engraved gilt hands, 8-day spring-driven movement with anchor escapement, silk suspended pendulum, pull quarter repeating on a bell, finely cast and chiseled ormolu case surmounted by decorative urn hung with garlands and flanked by berry finials, the sides with scrolling leaves and trellis paterae over red cloth, trailing garlands in front of the lenticle, break arch moulding with inverted acanthus leaf terminating in a berry finial.
The fine clock was made in Paris and sold by Martinet who originated in France. On the main springs the date 1776 was found.
