Description
Antoine-Louis Bayre is known as one of the greatest French sculptors of animals and there are many works of him in Museum all over the world. i.e. the Louvre Museum in Paris, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C., and the National Gallery in London. Short before his death in 1875 all his models and rights were sold to the founders Barbedienne.
‘Basset Anglais No. 2’ was designed around 1857. This fine example was made by Barbedienne between 1875 and 1893.
