A fine French Louis XV ormolu striking cartel wall clock by Décle A Paris, 1754.

The 11.5-cm enamel dial has dark blue Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic five minute marking. The centre is signed Décle A Paris. The finely foliate pierced hands are made of gilt brass. The back of the dial is inscribed by the enameler; d.n. Martinere P…?? Du Roy Ce 11 Juillet 1754. (d.n. Martiniere P…?? of the King, July 11th 1754)

Verge escapement

The movement is driven by two spring barrels and is of eight duration. It has verge escapement in combination with a silk suspended pendulum. The clock has half hour striking by means of a numbered countwheel. The backplate is also signed Décle A Paris.

tThe gilt bronze case is surmounted by an Chinese man holding a parasol and flower. To the sides of the case are scrolling branches with flowers over pierced trellis. Below is the lenticle flanked by C- and S-scrolls terminating in small flowers. The asymmetric design combined with the naturalistic elements executed in C- and S- scolls are typical for the Rococo period.
