A pair of French Empire ormolu and bronze ewers, circa 1825
Description
Ewers and candlesticks
Each of the beautifully cast and chiseled gilt and patinated bronze ewers has a curved handle that originates from a monkey’s head and terminates in a duck’s head. The gracefully shaped spout is decorated with leaf and shell motifs. The round base of the ewer is placed on a patinated tapered base decorated with classical mounts. At the bottom, the basement is raised on a moulded plinth. Although the jugs appear purely decorative, they can also be used as a candlestick.
